A1, From the very beginning, 24 lessons

This course is about the very basics in the Swedish language. It is a course for you, who does not speak Swedish yet.  We start with essential words, phrases, pronunciation and grammar. After this course you will be able to introduce yourself, say something about your working and everyday life, order at a café or restaurant, write very basic texts like messages and e-mails and know a little about Sweden, Swedish traditions and Swedish culture. 

Content: 
Introduction, greeting phrases, work and studies, numbers and time, everyday life, family and interests, food, shopping, transport and traveling, writing e-mails and messages, facts about Sweden, geography, culture, holidays and history

Grammar:
The alphabet, numerals, nouns, basic verbs and tenses, adjectives and comparison, basic pronouns, basic word order, basic prepositions, pronunciation and the difference between spoken and written language

Rivstart A1/A2 by Paula Levy Scherrer and Karl Lindemalm (chapter1-10)

Goals A1 (linked to CEFR): 
I can understand and use very simple words and phrases for basic situations in everyday life. I can introduce myself and other people, ask questions and respond to similar questions. I can communicate in a very simple way if my conversation partner speaks slowly and clearly.   

A2, From the beginning, 24 lessons

This course is for you who is able to speak a little, i.e. essential phrases and grammar. You still do not know how to build more complex sentences and you need more words, more grammar, a little more of everything basically. It is like a continuation course for beginners. 
 

Content:
Opinions and debates, computer and internet, reserve hotel rooms and tables at restaurants, working life, festivities and holidays, a typical Swedish family, schooling and education, how to live - in a town or in the countryside, health and wellbeing, small talk, news


Grammar: 
More about the basics: word order, verbs and tenses, nouns and declensions, adjectives, pronouns, short answers, frequency and amount, adverbs, prepositions, pronunciation: reductions and assimilations

Rivstart A1/A2 by Paula Levy Scherrer and Karl Lindemalm (chapter 11-20)


Goals A2 (linked to CEFR):

I can understand phrases and common words linked to the themes for this course. I can communicate in simple contexts and situations, use phrases describing my family, interests and everyday life, my background and work life. 

B1, Continuation course, 30 lessons

This course is for you who is already able to speak and understand Swedish in different situations but in a simple way. You are not yet an independent user but you are on your way. Now you want to develop your language and find more ways to express yourself. You want to expand your vocabulary and deepen your understanding of the Swedish language and grammar.   


Content:
Sports, culture and spare time, social life, life styles and habits, animal life and nature, democracy - government and politics, Sweden - geography, history and culture, storytelling - truth and tales, news - globally and locally 


Grammar:

The difference between adjectives and adverbs, prepositions and expressions for time, conjunctions and linking words, adjectives combined with nouns, past participle, a review of grammar from A1 and A2: verbs, tenses, nouns and adjectives, word order and more complex structures, pronunciation and prosody

Rivstart B1/B2 by Paula Levy Scherrer and Karl Lindemalm (chapter 1-9)
 

Goals B1 (linked to CEFR)
I can understand the essential standard language in my working and social life. I can handle most situations in everyday life. I can get into conversations unprepared and talk about known topics linked to everyday life. I can reason and explain my values and opinions in a simple way.  

B2, continuation course, 30 lessons

This course is a continuation of B1. We continue with deepening your ability to understand and communicate both spoken and written Swedish. After this course, you will feel more independent using Swedish in many different situations and contexts. 

Content: 

Traveling and tourism, society - crime and penalties, Individual challenges and conflicts, holidays and seasons, economy and consumption, family life, Swedish history and religion, working life and Swedish cultural codes

 

Grammar: 

More verbs and tenses, nouns with and without articles, past participle, adverbials, adjectives and comparison, emphatic constructions, interjections and exclamations, abbreviated clauses, pronunciation

Rivstart B1/B2 by Paula Levy Scherrer and Karl Lindemalm (chapter 10-18)

Goals B2 (linked to CEFR)

I can follow and understand more complex texts. I can also understand more specialized language within my field. I am not fluent but I can communicate with a native speaker without difficulties. I can explain my point of view in an argument and discuss different solutions and their pros and cons. 

C1, advanced course, 24 lessons

For this course you are already an independent user of the Swedish language. Now you want to refine your language and start your journey towards fluency. Together we will explore different ways of using and expressing the Swedish language. We will talk about linguistic details and nuances. We dive deeper into idioms and expressions, accents and different pronunciation types. We expand your vocabulary, find synonyms and work with your individual needs, gaps and difficulties. This course is partly tailored to your needs.

Content (suggestions):

News- Sweden and the world, work life - language and cultural codes, culture and media, Swedish history and culture, literature - non-fiction and fiction, wildlife and nature, traveling, hobbies and lifestyles, seasons and national holidays, environment, politics and society, interpersonal relations, common linguistic mistakes, idiomatic expressions
 

Grammar (suggestions): 
A review of all the basic grammar and complex sentence constructions, linking words and cohesion, compounds, pronunciation

Work books (suggestions):
Rivstart B2 + C1, by Paula Levy Scherrer and Karl Lindemalm, or Språkporten 123 by Monika Åström, or Form i Fokus C (grammar) by Cecilia Fasth and Anita Kannermark, or Så ska det låta (pronunciation) by Catarina Littman Persson

Goals C1 (linked to CEFR)
I can read a large amount of challenging texts. I can express myself almost completely and spontaneously without searching for words. I can use the language effectively for social and professional purposes. I can speak clearly and well-structured about complex matters and give detailed descriptions or reports.

C2, advanced course

This is a course that is either a continuation of C1 or a completely tailored course where you as a language user tell me what you want to focus on. Together we explore the Swedish language and investigate where your weaknesses are, in order to get closer to your goal: becoming fluent. 


Goals C2 (linked to CEFR)

I can easily understand almost everything I hear or read and reference facts and arguments. I can express myself spontaneously and completely fluently in almost all situations. I can understand and use stylistic variations and other subtleties (e.g. irony). My language is correct and varied.

Tailored courses

These lessons or courses are fully tailored and adapted to your individual needs and wishes. 

 

Tailored lessons and package solutions - an entire course, developed together with you. We focus on what you want to take a closer look at or struggle with, e.g. a specific grammatical area, spoken or written Swedish, academic texts, fiction, everyday Swedish, pronunciation or the like. Together we assess your level and agree on the focus and content.
